RSC Chairman Steve Scalise was first elected to represent Louisiana’s 1st district in Congress in a special election in May of 2008 to succeed Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal. Scalise was overwhelmingly re-elected in 2008, 2010, and again in November 2012. He attended Louisiana State University where he earned a Computer Science degree and minored in Political Science. Scalise is married to the former Jennifer Letulle and they have two children, Madison Carol (born March 17, 2007), and Harrison Joseph (born May 8, 2009).
Congressman Scalise is known as a staunch conservative who advocates for the principles of fiscal discipline, lower taxes, a comprehensive national energy strategy, a balanced federal budget, and conservative values. As as member of the Energy and Commerce Committee, Scalise has taken the Obama Administration to task for its failure to address the growing energy crisis in America. He has fought against the government takeover of health care, taken on Al Gore over the “Cap and Trade” energy tax, and held the Obama Administration accountable for their taxpayer funded green energy loans to failing companies like Solyndra.
