Republican Study Committee Chairman Jim Jordan offered the following statement in response to yesterday’s Supreme Court ruling in Knox v. SEIU, which affirms that public employees who do not belong to a labor union cannot be forced to contribute money to a union’s political activities. The ruling also requires public-sector unions to provide notice when imposing a special assessment or dues increase.
"Like any organization, unions have the right to collect dues from their willing members. Yesterday, the Court affirmed that workers who choose not to join a union have rights as well. This is a good day for the First Amendment and the millions of workers across the country who do not feel that unions speak for them."
