RSC Chairman Jordan on the Ryan Budget Proposal
Washington,
Apr 5, 2011 -
Republican Study Committee Chairman Jim Jordan issued the following statement regarding Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan’s proposal for the 2012 federal budget and beyond:
“The outcome of this budget debate will have a tremendous impact on the future of the country. The President’s plan, which relies on gimmicks and dodges the facts, actually crashes the economic models used by Congress’s independent scorekeeper. Unless we change course, higher taxes, inflation, interest rates, and unemployment will cripple our economy and rob our children of the opportunity to pursue the American Dream.
“The Ryan proposal takes an honest look at the challenges ahead. This document lays out a blueprint to save Medicare, save Social Security, reform the job-stifling tax code, repair the welfare safety net, cut wasteful spending, and get the debt under control over the coming decades. It draws upon a number of ideas supported by members of the Republican Study Committee, including from the Welfare Reform Act we introduced just a few weeks ago.
“House Republicans share a heartfelt desire to give Americans a better future than the one toward which the country is currently headed. Toward that end, the RSC is working on a proposal that builds off the Budget Committee’s effort and gets the budget into balance within 10 years. Thanks largely to Paul Ryan’s leadership, Congress has finally embarked on a serious debate about the long-term future of this country.”
